January 11, 2007 - ECS - The political winds have shifted for the United States of America in our recent national election, the people have spoken, and our newly elected representatives have taken their seats as members of the 110th Congress with the shift of power now in the hands of the Democratic Party. This is a good time to bring to the attention of our national leaders the plight of our long lost tall ships national maritime heritage and the urgent need to do something about it. Building a fleet of clipper ships would do much to lift the spirits of the American people in these troubled times. We call upon the 110th Congress, particularly the new House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, to somehow find the way to accomplish this and see to it that American tall ships take their rightful place sailing the oceans of the world. Tall ships played such a vital role with the founding of our country, and the clipper ship era around the time of the California Gold Rush ushered in the golden age of sail, the most exciting time in American history when American clippers sailed from eastern ports around Cape Horn to San Francisco. Now is the time to honor the shipbuilders who conceived and built the most ingenious magnificent tall ships that ever sailed the seas, along with ship owners, sail makers, brave captains, mates, and mariners who played such a vital role in our national maritime history that lead to the prosperity of our nation.
