12/14/2003 - Ahoy San Francisco and the rest of California. Our Tradewinds of the West Page just went up in time for the Holiday Season. A gift to you all, along with our story of our clipper ship maritime heritage as expounded upon these pages.

There is quite a bit of early San Francisco history here for you all to discover for the first time on the World Wide Web. We are happy to report that this Web site is already a bit hit with educators and teachers throughout the Golden State.

When you surf through our Web site extensively you will pick up on the fact that our major goal is to see that American clipper ships are built again and to have Deep Sea Derby clipper ship races from the Northeast around Cape Horn to San Francisco just like in the old days from 1849 through the 1850s around the time of the California Gold Rush.

Now wouldn't that be exciting! A Deep Sea Derby certainly would be a boon to San Francisco. It could happen.

In the meantime, we invite you all to watch this new Tradewinds of the West page evolve over the coming months and we invite the Maritime community, tourist industry, historians, educators, teachers, and everyone else in the region to get involved and contribute Web site links. See our Tradewinds page for details.

I should also say that I lived in the Bay Area for over a decade back in the 1960s and 70s and have always considered it to be my other home.

Happy sails,

Don Ross
